The Winter Restoration of the New “Seeker”

If you noticed a lack of photos during the winter months for catches from “The Seeker”, there was a very good reason! From October to early February the “new” Seeker went through months of total overhaul in drydock at Haleiwa Harbor. Here’s what we worked hard on for four months.

The new Seeker is a classic 45 foot Hatteras convertible. She was purchased by H2o Adventures Hawaii, the parent company of the “Chupu Sportfishing Fleet”, during the fall of 2013 to replace the old Seeker which is now known as “The Deep Sea”. After arriving in Haleiwa she was hauled out and a four month drydock began. All the running gear was removed, props, rudders, shafts, through hulls, and packings where either rebuild or replaced. The bottom was stripped and a new barrier coat and black bottom paint was added. The hull of The Seeker was sanded and painted over and over until a perfect mirror finish was obtained and custom Awl Grip Marlin Blue paint covered her. We then added an extra large fiberglass hard top supported by anodized aluminum wrap-around frame with an over sized ladder and rod holders. A second live bait station was added to the cockpit deck to go along with the below deck iki mount, a fine Scolpinich teak fighting chair was installed, and custom 1,000 lb fish box for the good days. The Seeker’s interior was in rather good condition with is beautiful mahogany wood throughout, so a quick run through with all new carpet and a couple full size couches did the trick. The twin 8v71 motors produce about 1000 hp and are in top running shape after Capt Hopper did an awesome over haul replacing all raw water lines, hose clamps, sending units, guages, alarms, and a couple other things to insure a reliable and comfortable ride. We then finished up with new, top of the line Raymarine Electronics supplied by Hookbuzz.com, which includes cockpit as well as bridge mounted GPS and HD sonar. Last but not least was a audio system from Kicker Audio so we can enjoy some jams during the day. The Seeker was splashed in February and has been skippered by Capt Hopper and Capt Chris with outstanding results! The Seeker is the largest and most comfortable charter boat fishing out of Haleiwa and comes to the dock daily with the greatest catches.
